Pilates

It is a form of training practice named after the person who established it, JOSEPH HUBERTUS PILATES. It is a body conditioning routine, a technique which develops the collaboration of the body, the spirit and the mind and includes:

  • Exercises done on floor mats, with or without the use of equipment such as mini and large ball, magic circle, elastic bands, exercise stick, foamroller, toning balls, semiball, Pilatesstick® and other popular props.
  • Exercises done on special apparatuses with springs which create resistance (Reformer, Reformer Tower, Cadillac, Springboard, Ped-a-Pul, Arm Chair etc.)
  • Exercises done on special apparatuses without springs (Ladder Barrel, Barrel, Step Barrel, all types of arcs etc.)

Pilates training refers to all ages and levels of ability and fitness, from beginners to elite athletes. It is also one of the best methods for rehabilitation and support for people with certain medical conditions. Pilates “transforms” the body, giving long and lean muscles. Strong core, flat belly and proper breathing are among the benefits of Pilates training.

Pilates used to say that his technique, Contrology, starts with the complete control of the mind over the muscles. Every move we do demands concentration and precision as well as constant practice and repetition. In this way, we shall achieve a body which will “think by itself”.

Consequently, we could say that Contrology is a science or rather a technique which develops the collaboration of the body, the spirit and the mind.
